Workshop Arrival and Departure

Applicants should plan to arrive no later than Saturday, December 3 around 4pm Hawaii Standard Time and depart no earlier than the morning of Thursday, December 8 after the workshop has ended.  Days will be full of activities and participants are expected to attend the entire workshop or else forfeit their participation.

Book tickets in and out of Hilo International Airport (ITO).  You will likely travel via Honolulu International Airport (HNL) and take another plane to Hilo.

Passport & Visa

You need a valid passport (recommended expiration date valid >6 months from workshop) if you are coming from a country other than the United States of America.

Please see the U.S. Department of State website for the most comprehensive and up-to-date information.  If you are a citizen of Canada or Japan, you should not need a visa to enter the U.S. for this workshop.  Citizens of China and India will need to apply for a U.S. Visa.  Please do this as soon as you have been accepted and have confirmed participation in the workshop as it can take up to 6 weeks to acquire the visa.

Ground Transportation & Lodging

We will work with participants to arrange ground transportation to & from the airport upon arrival as well as throughout the workshop days when transportation is necessary (summit and other facility visits).  If you are planning to arrive early or stay after the workshop, you will need to arrange transportation for yourself for days other than the workshop.  You can contact Austin Barnes or Diana Bisel for help arranging your stay outside of the workshop dates.

Lodging will be provided for the workshop dates as well, in double occupancy with a participant of the same gender.  We will work with you and your itinerary to help arrange it appropriately for your stay.
